proud.

These days all I have to do is log into faceboook, tumblr or twitter to be inspired. And these inspirations are coming to me from my peers. The amount of knowledge pouring out of these amazing human beings is humbling to say the least. With so many of my friends starting to wear the hijab, tweeting revolutionary type things, or just inviting me to random speak-outs or even starting organizations dedicated to the betterment of the world; I just feel so proud! Such a simple emotion but one that makes me melt at the thought of where we have been as a community, where people said we were going to be, and where we are going. More than anything though, it humbles me to think of the people that inspire me; which truely is a blessing from Allah swt. One of the biggest tests of being an activist is that constant battle with your ego; and I am not safe from that nor or any of us. Therefore knowing that there are so many people more amazing than me, quels the fiery temptation of my ego and makes my swell with pride that I am able to even call myself part of their community. Next time somone inspires you, makes you think, or just awes you with their presences; make a short prayer for them. And next time someone compliments you, or you feel that ego of yours acting up again recite the dua that Abu Bakr (May Allah swt be pleased with him) would say after he was praised.

O Allah, make me better than what they think of me, and forgive me for what they do not know about me, and do not take me to account for what they say about me.

Ameen. Fight on
